WHY THIS MATTERS

Cybersecurity belongs earlier in change work

Cybersecurity is now part of almost every meaningful change initiative. New systems, process changes, data flows, integrations, customer journeys and operating models all carry security considerations.

Yet many change practitioners are expected to handle these conversations without a shared foundation in cybersecurity. That can make requirements harder to shape, risks harder to discuss and decisions harder to explain.

The answer is not to turn every change practitioner into a cybersecurity specialist. The answer is to give learners enough practical understanding to ask better questions, recognise common issues earlier and work more effectively with security, technology and business stakeholders.

WHO IT IS FOR

Built for the people already shaping change

This course is designed for business analysts who work on digital, operational, service or organisational change.

It is also relevant for project managers who need to coordinate work with security considerations; product owners who want to make better decisions about security-related priorities; service designers who map journeys, processes and user needs; business architects who connect strategy, capability, process and technology; and change managers who support adoption of new ways of working.

The course is suitable for learners who are not cybersecurity specialists, but who need to understand how cybersecurity affects change work.

OUTCOMES

What learners will work towards

By the end of the course, learners will have a practical foundation for taking part in cybersecurity-related change conversations.

Learners will work towards being able to explain core cybersecurity concepts in plain business language; recognise where cybersecurity considerations commonly appear in change work; ask more useful questions during discovery, analysis and delivery; understand how security, risk, data, technology and operations connect; identify when specialist cybersecurity input is needed; contribute more confidently to requirements, workshops and stakeholder discussions; and make cybersecurity feel less separate from the work of business change.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Two days, eight focused sessions

The course runs over two days, with four 75-minute sessions each day. There are eight sessions in total. Each session is designed to be focused, practical and relevant to the work change practitioners do with stakeholders, teams and organisations.

Day one builds the foundation

Learners explore what cybersecurity means in a business change context, why it matters across projects and services, and how to understand common concepts without getting lost in technical detail.

Day two applies the foundation

Learners look at how cybersecurity appears in analysis, requirements, design decisions, delivery conversations and stakeholder engagement. Across the two days, the course keeps returning to one central question: What does a change practitioner need to notice, ask and understand so that cybersecurity is included earlier and handled more effectively?

PATHWAY

Where this course fits

Foundations of Cybersecurity for Change Practitioners is intended as a foundation-level learning experience within the Three Steps Left cybersecurity learning offer. It gives learners a shared starting point before moving into more specialised cybersecurity topics, role-specific development or organisation-specific practice.

Any formal recognition, badge, certificate, CPD alignment or partner recognition will be confirmed before enrolment where applicable. This page should not be read as confirmation of accreditation or external recognition.

APPROACH

The Three Steps Left approach

Three Steps Left is part of Envista Consulting. The approach is practical, clear and designed for people working in real organisations.

Learners will not be asked to become technical cybersecurity experts in two days. They will be helped to understand the language, patterns and working questions that make cybersecurity easier to include in everyday change practice.

The course is built around plain language over jargon; useful questions over abstract theory; and practical judgement over checklists without context.
